So instead of giving stats boosts to blues they could put underwater passages where only they can go since the path is blocked on the surface and ice pikmin can't help with that. If we need to add a new ability to a pikmin type i'd like it to be a new mechanic like electricity was in pikmin 2 (and partially in 3 with the light bulbs thing). Of course with new games and new pikmin types everything needs to be balanced again, but like yellow pikmin have changed their abilities in every game while reds have always stayed the same i guess. I don't know if i want more stats changes, i keep mixing them up with whites being the only ones to be able to dig in 2 but then yellows becoming the faster digging option in 3, i think whites also got a speed boost in 3 not to make it look like the just lost an ability. Blues were massively unique in Pikmin 1 & 2, so there shouldn't be SO much crying that just one of their abilities (passing through water) has been shared with other types since Pikmin 3. In addition, they resist a certain element attack and have stat changes (which by comparison are the ONLY unique traits for some other Pikmin, like Red). Travelling passed water (with Winged, Oatchi, or freezing) is not a replacement. In fact, on the Japanese site only Blue Pikmin are shown carrying the boat treasure from water.īlue Pikmin have always been the only type to be able to explore underwater floor, carry treasure in water, fight in water, and rescue drowning Pikmin. They have never been shown to fight in water, carry treasure in water, or even follow a captain in water. Ice Pikmin are shown to float idly in water once thrown, and then to freeze the water so others can walk passed/over it (which we already established going passed water hasn't been unique to Blues for a while). Ice Pikmin are hardly even a factor in terms of affecting Blue's utility. In addition to having resistance to their elemental attacks and having a stat change (which is still literally all Red has). However, Blues ALONE are able to fight in water, collect treasure in water, explore the floor of water, and rescue drowning Pikmin. Oatchi allows all Pikmin to travel passed/through water. Travelling passed/through water is not unique to Blues, which has already been the case for 10 years since Pikmin 3. In Pikmin 4, essentially nothing has changed for Blues. The fact that there are also new unique Pikmin like Winged doesn't somehow subtract from how unique Blues still are in comparison to the majority of the cast. who's primary trait is just a stat change and an elemental resistance. This makes them much more unique still than Red, Yellow, White, etc. If you want to explore or perform any action at all inside of water, you need Blues. This uniqueness changed slightly in Pikmin 3, where Winged Pikmin can fly OVER water, but still can not at all fight in water, collect treasure in water, or rescue drowning Pikmin. Water is a major map feature in the majority of areas, so Blue's abilities go way beyond an elemental resistance. And they do not rescue fellow burning Pikmin. Sure, Reds are immune to fire attacks, but there are not multiple vast lakes of fire with enemies and treasure inside. That's huge, and I think is completely glossed over by many. They had the ability to explore an entirely otherwise-unexplorable biom. In Pikmin 1 & 2 they were BY FAR the most unique Pikmin with no others coming close, when you consider their actual function. Hear me out (you were already warned that this is actually controversial, not just a quirky take, so don't downvote just for disagreeing) Blue Pikmin already have MORE THAN ENOUGH unique abilities and roles, even in Pikmin 4.
